Edna Million in a drop dead suit
Dutch Pink on a downtown train
Two-dollar pistol but the gun won’t shoot
I’m in the corner on the pouring rain
Sixteen men on a dead man’s chest
And I’ve been drinking from a broken cup
Two pairs of pants and a mohair vest
I’m full of bourbon, I can’t stand up

Hey little bird, fly away home
Your house is on fire, children are alone
Hey little bird, fly away home
Your house is on fire, your children are alone

Schiffer broke a bottle on Morgan’s head
And I’m stepping on the devil’s tail
Across the stripes of a full moon’s head
And through the bars of a Cuban jail
Bloody fingers on a purple knife
Flamingo drinking from a cocktail glass
I’m on the lawn with someone else’s wife
Admire the view from up on top of the mast

Hey little bird, fly away home
House is on fire, children are alone
Hey little bird, fly away home
House is on fire, your children are alone

I said hey little bird, fly away home
Your house is on fire, your children are alone
Hey little bird, fly away home
House is on fire, your children are alone

Yellow sheets on a Hong Kong bed
Stazybo horn and a Slingerland ride
“To the carnival” is what she said
A hundred dollars makes it dark inside
Edna Million in a drop dead suit
Dutch Pink on a downtown train
Two-dollar pistol but the gun won’t shoot
I’m in the corner on the pouring rain

Hey little bird, fly away home
Your house is on fire, your children are alone
Hey little bird, fly away home
Your house is on fire, your children are alone

The original didn’t need fixing.  Far from it.

But this version has it’s merits as well.

21 grams

July 9, 2008

’21 grams’ is a great movie, directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, featuring Sean Penn, Naomi Watts & Benicio Del Toro a.o.  It approaches issues of life and death, by means of the dramatic events in the individual lives of the characters.

The title refers to the weight of the human soul.  Apparently, some Massachusetts variety of Dr. Mengele – MacDougall – back in 1907, did some research on the physical proof of the human soul.  And he measured that on the moment of death, the human body suddenly loses about 21 grams.  Which according to the hypothesis, could be the soul, ‘the spark that links us to our creator’.  Flowing back to the mothership as it were.

Very interesting.  Ofcourse, there are bound to be other explanations.  Even more than we know, since mankind only has a very limited knowledge and therefor an incomplete grasp on reality.  Perhaps those 21 grams have something to do with life being some sort of electrical current, or force, which in itself adds a factor to the gravitational attraction between bodies with mass.  Gravitons with a certain charge, either losing that charge, or leaking into another dimension, after a powercut in this dimension.   (The layman’s protoscientific jumbling of somewhat interrelated terms & phenomena.)

Or perhaps 21 grams is the weight of a person’s guarding angel, flying off when it’s no longer needed.

Or 21 grams could be the physical weight of the mental share that each individual has in the collective guilt of all the evil in this world.

Or perhaps, the thought of Roseanne Bar in itself weighs 21 grams, and once a person has seen her, that image can’t be wiped from the subconscious memory until the hard disk is deleted.  At which point the weight of the mind picture is lifted.
